Introduction: Upgrading to GeNIe 1 to GeNIe 2

Changes in Menus:

File Menu

No Changes

Edit Menu

Items Changed:

Select Option now lets you select the nodes, submodels, or arcs in the model in addition to selecting all the elements in the model.

Find option is improved so as to display all the matches to your query in one window.

Items Removed:

The Align option is moved to a new menu named Layout Menu.

View Menu

Items Changed:

The Console window is now the Output window.

The Align toolbar is expanded to include new buttons and named the Format Toolbar.

Items Added:

Full Screen option added to display the models to fill the entire screen, ideal for presentations.

Enable Diagnosis option enables the diagnostic features of GeNIe 2. See Support for Diagnosis section to learn more.

Items Removed:

The Grid and Layout options have been moved to Layout Menu.

The Redraw option is removed. GeNIe 2 refreshes the screen automatically.

Tool Menu

Items Added:

Zoom option is added to select the Zoom tool. See Zoom section of Tool Menu for more information on this tool.

Network Menu

Items Added:

AIS Sampling option lets you choose the AIS sampling algorithm as the default algorithm for belief updating. See AIS Sampling Algorithm section for details of this algorithm.

Node Menu

Items Added:

Change Type option is used to change the type of the selected node. See Change Type section of the Node menu for more information on this option.

Set Evidence and Clear Evidence options are the same as that available in the Node context menu [Menu that appeared when you right clicked on the node].

Control Value option is used to control the value of the selected node. See Control Value section of the Node menu for more information.

View As option is used to select how the node is displayed in the Graph View. See View As section of the Node menu for more information.

Locate Parent and Locate Child options are used to find the parent and child of the selected node. See Locate section of the Node menu for more information.

Diagnosis Menu

A new Diagnosis menu has been added to hold all the diagnostic tools of GeNIe 2. See Diagnosis Menu section for more information on each command.

Layout Menu

A new Layout menu has been added. It houses all your old commands related to layout and alignment in addition to a few new features. See Layout Menu section for more information on each command.

Window Menu

Items Removed:

The New Window option is removed.

Changes in File Format

GeNIe 2 now uses the XDSL file format. It is an advanced version of the DSL file format used by GeNIe 1.0 and supports best all the latest features of GeNIe 2. The old .dsl files can be opened by GeNIe 2 so you shouldn't have a problem making a transition to the newer version.
