  • Know the basic functions of each element.

Let us acquaint ourselves with the GeNIe interface. Shown below is a snapshot of the main GeNIe interface. You can read a brief description of each element below. At this point it is not necessary to know each element shown below in detail. We will learn the important functional elements of GeNIe as we work through the tutorials.

The Menu Bar displays the menu headings. Clicking on a menu heading will open the menu and display a list of commands under that menu. You can click on a command name to choose that command. The commands you would normally use frequently are also displayed on the toolbars in the form of buttons for your convenience. The menus that are available depend on what is open in the workspace.

Note: Menu items that appear in grey either do not apply to the current selection or are unavailable.

Using the Menus

You can display menu commands using the following methods:

  • Clicking the menu in the Menu bar, or
  • Pressing the <Alt> key plus the underlined letter in the menu’s title. For example, to display the File menu, press <Alt> + <F>. Try it now.

You can select or execute a menu command using the following methods:

  • Clicking the item in the menu,
  • Pressing the <Alt> key plus the underlined letter in the menu’s title, and then pressing the letter underlined in the menu item. For example, to select the menu item File > Open, press <Alt> + <F> + <O>, or
