The File menu offers the following commands:
New
Starts a new GeNIe model. Opens a new, clear Graph view window. This command can be also invoked by pressing the (New) button on the Standard Toolbar or using the Ctrl+N shortcut.
Open
Opens an existing model that has been saved previously on the disk. This command can be also invoked by pressing the (Open) button on the Standard toolbox or using the Ctrl+O shortcut. The Open command opens the Open dialog window:
Left-clicking on the Files of type pop-up menu allows for choosing the type of files shown in the dialog window:
Choosing a file format (one of the following: GeNIe files, Ergo, Interchange, Netica, Hugin Equation and KI) makes GeNIe display only the files of that type. In order to see all the network files recognized by GeNIe in the directory, choose All Network Types. In order to see all files in the directory, choose All Files (*.*).
Note : You can have multiple files open at the same time.
Close
Closes all windows of the current model. If there are any changes to the currently opened model that have not been saved, GeNIe will warn you using the following dialog box:
If you want to save the changes that you have made since you have last saved the model, click on the Yes button or press Enter; if you want to discard them, click on the No button. If you have second thoughts about exiting GeNIe, click on Cancel.
Save
Saves the currently opened model using the current file name and file format. This command can be also invoked by pressing the (Save) button on the Standard toolbox or using the Ctrl+S shortcut.
If you want to save the current model in a different file, use the Save As command. If the document is new (i.e., if it has never before been saved), this command is equivalent to Save As command.
Save As
Saves the currently opened document to a specified file name in a specified format.
The Save As command opens the following dialog window that allows you to give your file a name and choose a file format. GeNIe supports a number of different format to facilitate exchange of models. We suggest that you use the native GeNIe format for your models, as it fits GeNIe best and allows for saving all GeNIe-specific features.
Left-clicking on the Save as type pop-up menu allows for choosing the file format:
In addition to the DSL native format (*.dsl), GeNIe supports the following file formats: Ergo, Interchange, Netica, Hugin., Equation and KI. To prevent loss of information in conversion between different formats, we recommend the users of GeNIe to use the XDSL format, which is in almost all cases a superset of other formats.
Print
Prints the current Graph view window. This command can be also invoked by pressing the (Print) button on the Standard toolbox or using the Ctrl+P shortcut.
The following dialog box allows you to modify some of the printing options, such as choose the printer, the range of pages to be printed, the number of copies to be printed, and other printer properties (through Properties button).
Print Preview
Displays the content of the current Graph view window on the screen as it would appear when printed. When you choose this command, the main window is replaced with a print preview window in which one or two pages will be displayed in their printing format. The print preview toolbar offers you options to view either one or two pages at a time; move back and forth through the document; zoom in and out of pages, and initiate the print job (bypassing the Print command).
Print Setup
Selects the printer and printer connection. This command presents a Print Setup dialog box, where you specify the printer and its connection. The appearance of the dialog box below may vary depending upon your system configuration.
Recent models
GeNIe displays the names and disk locations of up to four most recently used models. You can load them by choosing their names. This will bypass the Open command. Similarly to when you choose the Close command, when the current model has been modified since you last saved it, GeNIe prompts you to save the changes.
Exit
Exits GeNIe. Use this command to end your GeNIe session. You can also use the Close command on the application Control menu. Similarly to when you choose the Close command, when the current model has been modified since you last saved it, GeNIe prompts you to save the changes.
